PRESIDENT OF NASO
NASO met with Minister Biser Petkov and NGOs in social sector
NASO President Georgi Georgiev met with MLSP Minister Biser Petkov and representatives of NGOs working in the sector of social services and children's rights protection at the MLSP in June. The agenda was aimed at discussing the forthcoming reforms in this area. The meeting was attended by a wide range of NGOs to which Minister Petkov introduced his new team.
On behalf of the NASO members Mr. Georgiev expressed hope that the work on the new social services bill would be resumed and accelerated and that the new law would help differentiate the responsibilities and place of social services among the state, municipalities, social service providers and service users.
As a representative of the largest association of social service providers, Mr. Georgiev addressed the question of financial standards through which the services are implemented and the considerable delay in salary payments of employees in the sector as an extremely acute problem. On behalf of NASO, it was also proposed to introduce close monitoring of social services in order to achieve higher quality, development and sustainability in this activity.
